All cuttings are approximately 6 to 10 weeks old, with some slightly older. They range in height from 4 to 10 inches and come with well-established roots; some may even have mini tubers. We do not use any inhibitors on our cuttings. When planted deeply and covered with an additional layer of soil a month later, you can expect excellent tuber production by the end of the season. We propagate our cuttings from multiple family farms, and the key to success is to plant them deep and cover additional leaf nodes with soil as they grow.

Cuttings are easy to grow and will produce flowers before your tubers. They are a great way to boost your flower production while waiting for the tubers to develop.

When your cuttings arrive, unpack them immediately, water them, and place them in a cool, shaded, frost-free area to acclimate and harden off. You can plant them 24 to 48 hours later if there is no chance of frost. If frost is still a possibility, bring them inside.

Unlike tubers, cuttings are live plants. We recommend keeping the soil moist by hand watering or using a drip irrigation system. Avoid planting during the heat of the day; it’s best to plant in the evening or early morning. Do not overwater! Once established, one deep watering each day or two lighter waterings is sufficient, unless there’s a heat wave. Water as needed when the soil feels dry. Tubers retain moisture, so excessive watering is unnecessary.

We keep our cuttings in the ground as long as possible. If you can mulch around them, it can enhance their maturity for an additional month, leading to outstanding tuber production. While we cannot guarantee tuber production due to varying growing environments and fertilization practices, cuttings and tubers have historically yielded a similar number of tubers per plant, averaging between 3 and 10 tubers per plant—sometimes more if you're fortunate.
